Tahoe is one of the best places for biking with kids. Tahoe offers a huge variety of bike trails that range from beginner to expert terrain, so there really is something for everyone. Biking is a great way to explore Tahoe’s stunning scenery, and enjoy the cooler weather that’s often there in the summer.

Paved Bike Paths Around Tahoe

Camp Richardson Bike Path

This paved, 8-foot-wide path is an ideal spot to take kids biking in South Lake Tahoe. It’s mostly flat with a few gentle grades and beautiful views of the lake. The path extends from Camp Richardson Resort to Rainbow Bay, making it about 2.5 miles round trip. Along the way, you’ll pass by the Pope Beach area with its picnic tables, volleyball court, and sandy beach. This is the best paved bike trails place to ride with a kids bike trailer in lake Tahoe.

If you’re looking for a longer ride, you can extend your trip by continuing on the bicycle path that leads to Tahoe City (about 5 miles from Camp Richardson). This section of the path is narrower and has more traffic, so it’s best for older kids.

Several mountain bike trails around Camp Richardson are great for exploring with kids. Just be sure to stick to the easier trails and pay attention to trail signs, as some trails are not suitable for beginners.

Emerald Bay State Park Bike Trails

Emerald Bay State Park is another great spot for biking with kids in South Lake Tahoe. The level terrain and stunning views make it a popular spot for both hikers and cyclists.

There are several trails to choose from, but the Eagle Point Loop is an ideal option for families. This 2.5-mile loop takes you around Emerald Bay and past several overlooks with incredible views.

If you’re looking for a longer ride, you can continue on the trail that leads to Cascade Lake (about 5 miles from Emerald Bay). This section of the trail is more difficult, with some steep grades and narrow sections, so it’s best for older kids.

There are also several mountain bike trails in Emerald Bay State Park that are great for exploring with kids. Just be sure to stick to the easier trails and pay attention to trail signs, as some trails are not suitable for beginners.

Incline Village Bike Path

The Incline Village Bike Path is a great spot for biking with kids in North Lake Tahoe. The path is mostly flat and extends for 3 miles from Incline Village to Crystal Bay. Along the way, you’ll enjoy beautiful views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding mountains.

This is an easy path that is suitable for all ages and abilities. However, it can be a bit crowded on summer weekends, so it’s best to go early in the morning or during the week.

Lake Tahoe is full of incredible mountain bike terrain, but most of it is a bit too challenging for riding with kids (unless they’re very experienced). If your kids are new to biking, make sure to help teach them the skills they need to keep safe, before heading out on any trails. Hartoonian Trails, South Lake Tahoe

The Hartoonian trail complex is located on the south end of South Lake Tahoe and has lots of fantastic bike trails for kids and families. The trails are very well-marked and there’s a good variety of terrain, from easy to more challenging.

There are also several great places to stop for a picnic or snack along the way. The Hartoonian trail complex is one of the best places to mountain bike in lake Tahoe with kids. There are lots of small loops, so it’s great for younger riders, or for giving kids a little freedom to ride short segments on their own.

Tahoe Rim Bike Trail, North Shore

The Tahoe Rim Trail is a world-famous bike trail that runs around the entire lake. It’s a bit challenging in places, but there are also some great sections that are perfect for riding with kids. The section from Tahoe City to Squaw Valley is mostly flat and has some great views of the lake. There are also several short, easy side trails that are perfect for kids.

This bike park is located near Truckee and has a variety of different trails to choose from. There are beginner-friendly trails as well as some more challenging options for kids who are looking for a thrill.
