Have you ever wanted to teach your kids to do ski, but weren’t quite sure if you were qualified to do it?
Well, guess what? Chances are that you ARE, and honestly it’s not as hard as you may think it is!
First off, you don’t need to be an expert skier, but you do need to be 100% comfortable on a green run. That means that you can always turn where you want to go and you can stop any time you need to (and quickly if need be). You also need to be well balanced since you will be helping another skier up when they fall, on and off the chairlift, and possibly holding a limp kid for a bit.
We’ve taught all 5 of our kids to ski, and at least for those first few times, I truly believe that anyone can do it. So, check out our tips in the video below, and then go read our whole Ski School Series here. Also, don’t forget to grab an edgie-wedgie (I promise, it’s the best $15 you can spend towards a happy ski day!)
Hey! I’m wondering if you have any advice for a parent on a snowboard to help teach kids to turn. My middle child can stop, but turning needs work and I’m not sure what verbal cues I can give her to help. Thanks!
Alyssa – I actually don’t have any suggestions. Sorry, we’ve pretty much just stuck to skiing!
